Trackbacks disabled.

I realised while editing a post (ajax and admin) that the trackbacks field was present. This is fine, however, I have trackbacks disabled in the settings content under admin.
Is this by design or have I stumbled on an oversight?

That's unrelated. Trackback disabling disables incoming trackbacks (i.e. to prevent trackback spam), not outgoing.
